The Best Skincare Routine For Winter

Between the cold temperatures, lack of humidity, and harsh winds, the winter months can be tough on the skin. If you’ve been struggling to figure out how to give your skin what it needs in the winter, OROGOLD has your back. Read on as we talk you through a daily winter skincare routine that will have your skin glowing in no time, no matter your skin type!

Step 1: Cleanse Your Skin

24K Mousse Cleanser

Whether it’s winter, summer, or anything in between, every skincare routine should always begin with a cleanse. You want your skin to be a blank canvas before you start applying the rest of your skincare products, so that they can soak their way in without any dirt or other impurities blocking the way.

The challenge with cleansing in the winter is that the skin barrier is easily compromised at this time of year. The skin doesn’t produce as much sebum in the winter, making the skin more prone to damage. For this reason, the cleanser that you use needs to be gentle enough to not interfere with skin barrier function while thorough enough to ensure that your skin is fully cleansed.

The OROGOLD 24K Mousse Cleanser is perfect for this. It’s designed for all skin types, with the mousse being powerful yet moisturizing at the same time. It’s exceptionally hydrating, making it perfect for winter skincare, while the numerous botanical extracts in this formula will ensure that your skin looks bright and refreshed.

Step 2: Dab on a Toner

24K Purifying Toner

If you don’t already use one, adding a toner to your winter skincare routine can be a game-changer for your complexion. Pick a hydrating formula and you’ll be able to give your freshly cleansed skin a splash of hydration at a time when it’s feeling most receptive.

A good toner will also work to rebalance the pH of your skin’s surface. This is important year-round but becomes even more so in the winter when you’re trying to preserve skin barrier function as much as possible.

Keep in mind that not all toners will be suitable for winter skincare, so pick a formula that is, such as the OROGOLD 24K Purifying Toner. Again, just like our cleanser, this toner has been designed to work with all skin types. With aloe vera leaf juice and cucumber fruit extract, it feels soothing and hydrating, while the other botanicals provide an array of antioxidants.

Step 3: Apply a Vitamin C Serum

Vitamin-C-serum

Most active ingredients need to be chosen based on your skin type and the visible skin concerns you want to target. However, when it comes to vitamin C, this is an ingredient that everyone would benefit from.

Vitamin C is an awesome multi-tasker. If you have dry skin, it will help to boost hydration levels. Those with oily skin will love how it rebalances how greasy the skin feels. It effectively lightens the look of discoloration too while also brightening the complexion and reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, making it the perfect all-rounder for winter skincare!

At OROGOLD, we have an entire collection dedicated to this wonder ingredient, with one of those products being the 24K Vitamin C Booster Facial Serum. This serum stands out because not only does it contain two forms of vitamin C, but it’s also infused with vitamins A and E. All three vitamins are antioxidants that work beautifully together, bringing you visible results so much sooner.

Step 4: Layer on a Hydrating Serum

Termica-Serum

Moisture retention is something that the skin really struggles with in the winter. This is partly down to the lack of humidity in the air. All of that dryness surrounding your skin causes the moisture in your skin to evaporate out at a faster rate. The low temperatures and cold winds that inhibit skin barrier function don’t help either since the skin barrier is responsible for holding moisture in.

This is why hydration needs to be a big part of your winter skincare routine. Ideally, you should be doing this with a few different products. We’ve already shared a super hydrating toner, so now let’s talk about hydrating serums.

If you have oily skin, go with a lightweight, oil-free formula, such as the 24K Termica Activation Serum. It hydrates the skin with a blend of humectants, including sodium hyaluronate, glycerin, collagen, and seaweed extract. Meanwhile, if you have dry skin, plant oils would be great for giving your skin a boost of moisture. The 24K Nano Ultra Silk Serum contains several of them, including sweet almond, wheat germ, and sesame seed.

Step 5: Pat on Some Eye Cream

The oil that your skin produces in the winter helps to keep your skin lubricated and conditioned. However, not only does the skin produce less oil in the winter, but the area around the eyes contains fewer sebaceous glands. This means that sebum production is even weaker here. This makes an eye cream a key part of any winter skincare routine, particularly once your skin starts to age.

Again, just like when choosing a serum, pick an eye cream that correlates with your skin’s needs. For example, if dark circles under your eyes are an issue for you, you’ll love the 24K Dark Circle Eye Solution. With vitamins, caffeine, and resveratrol, this formula will quickly lighten and brighten the look of your under-eye area.

On the other hand, if the appearance of crow’s feet and other creases around your eyes have been getting you down, look for a cream that can help with this. The 24K Intensive Eye Formula Cream would be a good move. It’s packed with peptides, vitamins, and plant oils to leave the skin around your eyes looking smoother and tighter.

Step 6: Moisturize

24K Skin Tone SPF

The final step of your daily winter skincare routine should be to moisturize. Not only will a moisturizer give your skin an extra splash of moisture, which it desperately needs during the dry days of winter, but it will also aid in locking in all of the skincare products that you’ve already applied. This will prevent them from evaporating away. As a result, your entire winter skincare routine will be able to work more efficiently.

In addition to keeping your skin type in mind when choosing a moisturizer, you also need to consider the time of day. In the mornings, your skin is about to face a wide range of environmental aggressors that can cause serious damage, such as UV rays and air pollutants. To counter the visible harm that they can cause, you’ll need a moisturizer with plenty of antioxidants. SPF can be useful too to save you from having to apply a separate sunscreen. For this, the OROGOLD 24K Skin Tone SPF would be perfect!

In the evenings, your skin would benefit from a helping hand while it works on repairing the damage that it has been dealt over the course of the day. Those with dry skin will love the rich and buttery texture of the 24K Overnight Cream. It will leave your skin looking soft and dewy!

Meanwhile, if you have oily skin, go with a lighter cream, like the 24K Termica Completion Cream. It’ll moisturize your skin without weighing it down. It’s also loaded with peptides and antioxidant-rich botanicals, along with licorice root extract to even out your skin tone.

Winter Skincare Weekly Add-ins

The winter skincare routine that we’ve shared above lends itself well to daily use. However, if you want your skin to thrive throughout the colder months, there are a couple of extra steps that need to be carried out weekly…

1) Exfoliate Your Skin

24K Multi-Vitamin Deep Peeling + Mandelic Acid

Exfoliation is something that you should be doing no matter the season. However, in the winter months, when your skin feels rough and flaky, exfoliation is a great way to bring some smoothness and softness back to your complexion.

With that said, in the same way that an overly harsh cleanser can be too much for your skin in the winter, you need to be careful when picking an exfoliator too. One of our favorite formulas, no matter your skin type, is the 24K Multi-Vitamin Deep Peeling + Mandelic Acid. Mandelic acid is an alpha-hydroxy acid (AHA). It might not be as famous as some of the other AHAs out there but it’s a great choice for winter skincare because of how gentle it is. In this formula, it’s combined with bamboo powder, which provides some physical exfoliation. Together, they’ll get rid of any roughness and dullness from your complexion, giving your skin a gorgeous glow.

2) Apply a Face Mask

24K Rose Gold Hydro Mask

Exfoliation is essentially like a deep cleanse for your skin. This means that post-exfoliation, your skin will feel even more receptive to anything else that you apply. This would be a great time to use a face mask. Masks are packed with a high concentration of active ingredients, making them capable of giving your complexion a huge boost.

At OROGOLD, we have several winter skincare masks that you can pick from. The 24K Advanced Facial Mask would be good for anyone with skin that looks congested. The clay in this mask will pull away impurities from your skin. Meanwhile, the botanical extracts will ensure that your skin looks bright and radiant.

If sheet masks are more your thing, try our 24K Deep Tissue Rejuvenation Mask. These hydrogel masks are exceptionally hydrating. They’ll leave your skin looking plump and dewy!

Another option would be a leave-on mask. Not only are these super convenient, but the fact that they remain on the skin for longer enables them to give your skin some extra hydration. With rose hip seed extract, avocado oil, seaweed extract, lime extract, and sodium hyaluronate, the 24K Rose Gold Hydro Mask boasts a leave-on formula that dry skin will absolutely love!
