7/17/2014 Update – Bird Poop Facials Becomes The Latest Craze In New York

Woman getting a bird poop facialIf David and Victoria Beckham do something for their skin, it must be worth a try right? Well, the Beckhams are known to follow a unique skin care treatment that is now being offered in certain spas in New York City. These spas have been trying to transform the way the world looks at luxurious beauty treatments – by adding bird poop in it. No seriously. New York spas have added nightingale droppings to their facial treatments as the enzymes contained in the poop should allow one to look more radiant. At $180 per facial, you would expect something different, wouldn’t you?

Well, despite being quite rare in the US, bird poop treatments are nothing new in the skin care world. And contrary to what you might believe, they actually work wonders as well. The secret is in understanding that not just every poop works. These spas use Japanese nightingale droppings only. The main reason behind this is that nightingales live only on seeds, which allows them to produce the natural enzyme which acts as the main ingredient for this facial. So, all those who thought that Central Park poop was being used in these treatments, are certain to feel much better.

The Bird Poop facial was first used by geishas and actors in Japan in the early 1600s and it has been famous in the country ever since. It is considered to help in keeping the face smooth and soft by using an enzyme that helps in exfoliating the skin. According to Duck Clauck, the owner of Ten Thousand Waves health spa, the bird poop facials were one of the main reasons behind the beautiful complexions of Japanese grandmas.

When asked about the experience of a bird poop facial, New Yorkers said that despite all the hype surrounding it, the facial is actually quite relaxing. They felt that the experience was like rejuvenating your mind amid rose, lavender and camellia aromas and enjoying soft and smooth skin after the facial.

These treatments usually begin with steam in order to soften the skin and open up your pores. Next up comes cream massage which is followed by the nightingale poop. The poop is dried and ground into a bowl and is usually mixed with some rice bran. This is then applied to the face with a brush. The therapist needs to massage the mixture gently with her hands to get the treatment to work.  After leaving the nightingale poop on your face for almost 5 minutes, it is washed off using a foaming cleanser and towel bathed in lavender essences. Finally, a green tea mask completes the entire process.

And if you’re wondering whether the poop smells, it does. But all you can smell is rice!

07/23/2014 Update – Vampire Facials– The Spooky Way Of Looking Younger

Facial update - Vampire FacialOf course not. Vampires don’t exist. No one’s going to drink your blood. As gory or gruesome as it might sound, the Vampire facial can actually do wonders for your skin. After all, celebrities like Rupert Everett and Kim Kardashian are known to swear by it.

What happens in a Vampire facial?

A Vampire Facial, also known as Platelet Rich Plasma, requires the technician to extract some blood from your arm, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the white and red blood cells and then inject this platelet rich plasma into tiny holes that are poked in your face. The facial begins with some application of an anesthetic cream on your face. A vial of blood is then taken from your arms and placed in a centrifuge for about 5 minutes so as to separate the plasma. Once the plasma has been separated, the vial looks to be a prop out of one of those horror films. There is a yellowish gel on the tip, white colored liquid in the middle and some dark red liquid at the bottom of the vial. The next step is to inject the plasma into your face with the help of a drill. This drill is known as an electric microneedle. It contains 6 needles that puncture your skin and create a channel for the blood to seep into. The sensation is similar to getting a tattoo. The warm plasma, the yellowish substance is dripped onto your skin and the machine moves it across your cheeks. The process goes on for about 15 minutes, after which you’re put under white light. This apparently doesn’t contain UV rays and helps the plasma to sink deeper. Finally, a breathable foundation is applied to the face for cosmetic purposes.

Does it really work?

The results of Vampire facials are known to last for anything between 6 – 12 months. According to experts who swear by the process, the human body is on a conveyor belt that keeps going in a single direction towards aging. A Vampire facial simply picks up the conveyor belt and moves you away from the destination. Dr. Julio Gallo, a specialist at the Miami Institute of Age Management, mentions that the Vampire facial is in no way a replacement for facelifts or the ultimate answer to aging. But he does state that this facial helps in making your face look fresher and younger. The plasma contains certain “growth substances” that are known to rejuvenate your skin cells.

What does the future hold?

According to Dr. Jennifer Walden, a plastic surgeon in Texas, Vampire facials certainly have a lot of promise. Even though a lot of studies and research still need to be conducted, obvious signs of improvement are there for everyone to see. She also states that studies are being carried out to combine plasma treatment with lasers, a process that she believes should have a lot of promise for the future.

And the end result?

You might be wondering if the traumatic experience is worth the effort? Well, numerous medical experts, Rupert Everett, Kim Kardashian, Anna Friel and all those who have tried out the facial certainly seem to think so. The fine lines and wrinkles on your face are known to reduce significantly and your skin becomes much brighter and firmer. And the fact that you cannot stay outside in broad daylight for a few days would also make Count Dracula proud!

08/19/14 Update – Royal Facials – Kate Middleton’s Secrets to Beautiful Looking Skin

Bee Venom is considered to have become one of the latest buzz words in terms of celeb skin care. After all, with a fan following that consists of beauty queen Victoria Beckham, personalities like Kylie Minogue and Simon Cowell as well as the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, what facial wouldn’t become popular?

According to reports, the Duchess of Cambridge used the bee venom facial in order to ensure that her face had a glowing complexion on her wedding day in the year 2011. This treatment is believed to have been recommended by Camilla, her stepmother in law. Camilla is believed to be a major fan of the facial which plumps up the skin by tricking it into believing that it has been stung. This makes the body direct blood towards the “stung” area and ends up stimulating the production of elastin and collagen, both of which are integral to younger, softer and tighter looking skin. According to advocates, the treatment actually helps to reduce scars, rejuvenate the skin, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and also heal acne.

This procedure is first tested on a small patch of the skin to see if you are allergic to the facial or not. If you’re allergic, the patch would become red and would start itching. You can only apply the facial if there is no allergic reaction. The bee venom facial starts off with a deep cleanse that is performed using a collagen cleanser, rough cloth and warm water. Once your face has been properly cleansed of its impurities, dead skin cells and makeup, a collagen toner is applied. Next up, a unique concoction of AHA is lathered onto the skin for about 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, this concoction is removed with a neutralizing agent and water.

Once this is complete, the most important ingredient of the facial – the bee venom – is applied to your face. Some may find it to be disappointing that it looks just like any other face mask. No live bees or collections of bee stings in a pot here. The bee venom is extracted with the help of a metal plate that is placed inside the hive. This plate carries an electrical charge that doesn’t harm the bee, but threatens it in order to make it release the venom. This venom is then used in skin care products to create the facial to be used in this process. The bee venom is left on your face for about 20 minutes in order to allow it to soak into the deeper lying areas of your skin. Once most of the venom has been soaked into the skin, the balance is removed using a damp cloth.

Your skin should look a bit gray right after the facial, but this should become better as the days pass and the color returns to your skin. However, you can enjoy a matte and smooth appearance right from day 1 itself. After a few days of applying the facial, you can expect the fine lines to reduce and your complexion to improve as well.

The bee venom facial, also termed as the natural botox, definitely seems to be worth trying. The results don’t take too long to show either. Seems that like most other decisions in her life, Kate got this one right as well.
