Woman working out

It has long since been known that exercise is extremely beneficial when it comes to slowing down the aging process, but there is one form of exercise that has been proven to be especially effective. Also referred to as high-intensity interval training, HIIT has been the focal point of many recent studies, all of which have shown that this is the way to go if you want to have the most dramatic impact on the way in which you age.

How Exactly Does HIIT Work?

HIIT is when you perform quick and intense bursts of exercise, with each one followed by a short recovery period, some of which will involve lower intensity activities. The reason why HIIT training is so effective is because it keeps your heart rate up, while burning more fat in a shorter amount of time, and not only has a metabolic effect on the body, but also a molecular one.

Mitochondrial Activity

One of the main roles of mitochondrial is to produce energy within cells, but this activity declines with age, which brings about a whole range of effects, from increased fatigue to shrinking muscle size to excess blood sugar levels, which would then lead to diabetes. However, HIIT training is not only able to put a stop to this decline of mitochondrial activity, but it can also reverse it, boosting back its ability to generate energy within cells.

What Do You Need for HIIT Training?

The beauty of HIIT training is that you do not actually need any equipment at all, since the focus is on using your body weight to increase your heart rate. This goes a long way in helping to build muscle, while increasing the number of calories that are burned.

Give This HIIT Workout a Try

This HIIT workout is one that you can do just about anywhere, and is relatively easy to remember. Begin with 50 sit-ups, followed by 40 jump squats, 30 push ups and 20 split jumps. Finish this off with 10 tricep dips and 30-second burpees, ensuring that you really put your all into it, and have 30 seconds of rest between each set of exercises. This workout should be repeated every other day, and you should try to beat your time with each new session, which will seem much easier as your fitness levels increase.

There are so many different HIIT workouts out there that you can try, all of which will be so beneficial when it comes to your anti-aging campaign. In addition to this, HIIT workouts are extremely quick and convenient, usually taking no more than 30 minutes, making them easy to squeeze in to your day.
